SamuelBabbertResearch/childrens-media-analysis-toolkit: CMAT v1.3.0 — Measurement corrections, faster charts, and clip tools

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

CMAT v1.3.0 for Windows Download CMAT-v1.3.0-windows.zip, extract the entire archive, and open CMAT/CMAT.exe. Keep the _internal folder next to the executable. Python, FFmpeg, and VLC do not need separate installation. GitHub's separate "Source code" ZIP is for developers, not the ready-to-run Windows app. What's updated Methodological corrections: distinguish hard cuts from broader transitions; associate validation with the exact detector configuration; clean and merge timed-text intervals; record effective sampling rates; retain partial audio windows; identify FFC input variants; and label exploratory language measures. Performance: defer heavy imports, reuse cached results and directory scans, combine frame passes, remove redundant audio probing, and render charts more efficiently. Charts: preserve unique episode labels, horizontal layouts for larger sets, timed-text rate/density pairing, and legible validation notes. Clip tools: candidate feature map and browser-based matched-pair hard-cut timestamp coding with CSV export. Packaging: include the word lists needed by Spache/Dale-Chall readability formulas, alongside the existing bundled pronunciation dictionary. Documentation: reconciled project history, methodological audit, and public Index source fixes. This release does not republish the separate Index site or replace the Study Runner stimulus package. Verification and scope The integrated source suite passed 804 tests, with 13 skipped for absent Little Bear media. The package is checked using synthetic video/audio, analysis, language resources, Qt screens, and bundled VLC playback, then checked again from a fresh ZIP extraction. This is testing on the Windows build machine, not a separate clean-machine certification. Includes the English spaCy model and CMU pronunciation dictionary. Optional Whisper transcription downloads its model on first use. Optional lexical norm tables are not bundled. FFC remains an unvalidated researcher-configured index. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the download checksum; CMAT/BUILD_INFO.json records source and build identity. User-editable settings are in CMAT/config.json.
