APF Paper 10 — The Calculus of Finite Continuability

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

Paper 10 of the Admissibility Physics Framework (APF), The Calculus of Finite Continuability. Spencer-Brown's Laws of Form begins by drawing a distinction; APF begins one layer lower — a distinction is physical only through the admissible continuations it can sustain. Core results. The primitive judgment. Γ ⊢C D → E: in context Γ, the distinction-expression D can continue as E using enforcement capacity no greater than C. Enforceability is identity-class continuation, cost is the least burden required to continue, and the Budgeted Calculus of Distinctions is the discrete positive-floor specialization. One grammar for the whole stack. A recruitment profile records where the substrate carries a continuation's burden. Fields are equilibrium recruitment profiles; radiation is cost-discharge from failed adiabatic recruitment; quantum anchors are branch-conditioned recruitment structures; geometry is the cost structure of comparison and transport; gauge symmetry is continuation-profile-preserving relabeling; entropy is the irreversible coarsening of profiles. Possibility before dynamics. Continuation defines admissible possibility; a dynamics, probability law, or variational rule is a later selector or weighting on admissible continuations. That separation is the central simplification. Why this matters for the series. It is the language layer of Admissibility Physics — the common grammar, the first representation lemmas, and the theorem-tree discipline by which every later branch (geometry, fields, quantum order, gauge, entropy) must be certified. About the APF series. The Admissibility Physics Framework develops Standard Model and cosmological structure from a single primitive — finite enforcement capacity — through a chain of papers plus a machine-verifiable engine, with each result carried at its stated hypotheses. Each paper has a main text and, where applicable, a Technical Supplement, deposited on Zenodo and collected in the admissibility_physics community; the canonical engine (APF-Engine v24.3.504, 4,233 bank-registered theorems) records the constructions and controls behind every quantitative claim.
