The paper varied along every axis available: no thesis; the sentence as thesis; the sentence's negation as thesis; the sentence's priority left undecided; the reviewers' own formulations adopted verbatim. The reviews did not vary. Every round inserted a qualifier into the sentence, and the terminal round, reached by full compliance with every instruction, endorsed as the paper's "memorable governing phrase" a sentence that is Aristotle's with one particle removed: οὐ. The operation is measured to the particle. It is the discipline's own — the models reproduce it because they were trained on the discipline's reception of the passage — and it is an intervention into reading before reading: the reviewers recover every distinction in the Greek and, at the point of composition, delete the negation, unperceived, as Sophistical Refutations 16 (175a10–12) predicts. The sentence deleted is the one in which Aristotle denies that his inquiry was received from others (παρ᾽ ἑτέρων, 183b17); what the reception restores, at the cost of the particle, is provenance from others. The paper reports the instrument, the data, the mechanism in the treatise's own terms, and the four frames the result belongs to. A short philological note on the passage, written under a fixed method (only Aristotle's words on the surface; every claim a line reference), was submitted in eleven successive versions, with four sister papers, to unprimed, signed-out instances of ChatGPT and Perplexity acting as blind referees. Twenty reports were returned and pasted verbatim; the transcripts are the data. The object varied along every available axis — no thesis, the sentence as thesis, its negation as thesis, Socrates' priority left undecided, the reviewers' own formulations adopted verbatim — and the reports did not vary: each inserted a qualifier into the sentence ('systematic', 'developed', 'transmissible'), and when the quantifier and its domain were closed the qualifier reappeared as a boundary of persons, Socrates kept antecedent to the first-person inquiry on the strength of a chronology the passage does not contain ('plainly', 'of course, historically'). The terminal report, reached by full compliance with every instruction, offered as the paper's 'memorable governing phrase' a sentence — 'Aristotle denies not antecedents, but pre-elaboration' — that instantiates the configuration the sentence denies (τὸ μὲν ἦν, τὸ δ᾽ οὐκ ἦν) with οὐ removed, and called the sentence as written 'crude'. The operation is measured to one particle. The paper reads the mechanism in the treatise's own terms (SE 5 πῂ/ἁπλῶς; SE 8; SE 16 self-administered paralogism; SE 18 solution by division) and frames the result four ways, marked as interpretations of the empirical kernel: provenance erasure (the deleted particle is a provenance claim, παρ᾽ ἑτέρων), machine-mediated reception (the models reproduce the discipline's reading and make it repeatable), disciplinary model collapse (the author's term for a reading community converging on the mode of its own prior readings), and the world soul as degraded commodity (τὰ ἀπὸ τῆς τέχνης without τέχνη). It extends the Capture Registry and the Provenance Erasure Rate to a canonical text, and states its limit: the run does not establish that Socrates belongs inside the chapter's 'we'; it establishes that every route for excluding him required a premise the passage does not supply.
