Abstract
The non-conventional yeasts Ogataea polymorpha and Candida famata were studied as hosts for the production of ethanol, L-lactic acid, and riboflavin from xylose, glycerol, and lignocellulosic hydrolysates. Metabolic engineering and selection improved ethanol production by O. polymorpha from pentose sugars and enabled L-lactic acid production from lignocellulosic sub-strates. Metabolic engineering of C. famata resulted in strains with increased riboflavin production from xylose, lignocellulosic hydrolysates, and crude glycerol. The obtained strains provide a basis for further development of yeast-based production processes using lignocellulosic sugars and glycerol as carbon sources. Keywords: Ogataea polymorpha, Candida famata, bioethanol, L-lactic acid, riboflavin, metabolic engineering.
Overexpression of ADH6, HAA1, and GRE2 genes were performed and strains were characterized by increased in riboflavin production, characterized by increased in riboflavin production.

Candida famata is a flavinogenic non-conventional yeast with a high capacity for riboflavin (vitamin B₂) production and represents a promising microbial cell factory. Glycerol, particularly crude glycerol generated as a by-product of biodiesel production, is an attractive low-cost carbon source for microbial fermentati...

Improved pentose alcoholic fermentation in Ogataea polymorpha was achieved by positive selection and identification of the genetic determinants IRA1 and API1. Heterologous expression of lactate dehydrogenase genes enabled efficient L-lactic acid production, demonstrating distinct strategies for redirecting yeast metabo...

Medium chain-methyl ketones are molecules with high energy content and various industrial applications. So far, biotechnological methyl ketone production was performed with glucose as a carbon source in minimal media, which is often not the best choice in terms of achieving a sustainable and cost-efficient bioprocess....
