Abstract
This paper investigates non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with stop-and-wait (SW) automatic repeat request (ARQ) for heterogeneous Internet of Things (IoT) networks with mixed modulation orders. In this system, two users with different service requirements share a NOMA-based backhaul link, where one user employs a higher-order modulation to support high data-rate transmission, while the other employs a lower-order modulation to enhance reliability. To ensure fairness between the two users, a round-robin (RR) power-allocation scheme is considered, in which the primary and secondary decoding roles alternate across transmission sessions. Building on this framework, iterative interference cancellation (IIC) is applied offline at the IoT gateway (IoG) to recover dropped packets without requiring additional retransmissions. Numerical results show that the proposed RR-IIC scheme enhances the throughput of the higher-order modulation user by recovering dropped packets, achieving up to 12 dB reduction in packet drop rate (PDR), while achieving PDR performance close to that of orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and higher overall throughput.
Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has become a key enabler for sustaining energy-constrained Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices, while simultaneous transmission and reflection reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RIS) provide enhanced coverage and beamforming flexibility by serving users o...

The Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) has attracted every wireless communication network based on its flexibility and scalability. However, handling or functioning the NOMA system for a specific wireless communication system, such as cellular or sensor networks, became a complicated task. In this present study, the...

With rapid increase in wireless connectivity demand, getting dedicated spectrum resource is becoming increasingly difficult. Many private entities want to set up their own networks, e.g., for machine-type communications, such as in mining areas where public network connectivity is insufficient. To address the spectrum...
