Abstract

With rapid increase in wireless connectivity demand, getting dedicated spectrum resource is becoming increasingly difficult. Many private entities want to set up their own networks, e.g., for machine-type communications, such as in mining areas where public network connectivity is insufficient. To address the spectrum availability issue for setting up such private networks, in this letter an interference cancellation (IC)-based coexistence solution is proposed, and practical feasibility limits are studied where both networks are considered to operate with new radio (NR) technology. To assess the limits of IC-based coexistence, the letter presents a mathematical analysis for finding suitable parameters, namely transmit power and modulation and coding scheme (MCS), for coexistence of two NR networks, N1 and N2, which is verified through MATLAB simulations. N2 downlink performance results reveal IC-based coexistence constraints as a function of N1 operation parameters and relative position of N2 users. For example, when N1 operates at MCS {16QAM, 0.6426} and SNR at N2 user from N1 is 17 dB, the feasible SNR region of operation of N2 is about 0 dB to 7 dB with N2 operating at MCS {QPSK, 0.1172}. Hardware implementation results further demonstrate the practical feasibility.
