TL;DR

Metaplastic changes driven by prenatal cannabinoid exposure (PCE) on eCB signaling at excitatory afferents on dopamine neurons are identified and include a switch in retrograde signaling favoring de novo synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) to replace the actions of eCBs, which are compromised at excitatory inputs.

GABAB Receptors Gate Sex-Specific Synaptic Plasticity in the Nucleus Accumbens

Excitatory synaptic plasticity within the nucleus accumbens (NAc) drives motivated behaviors, and dysregulation is implicated in several psychiatric disorders marked by impaired reward processing. The NAc integrates glutamatergic input, which conveys information about reward, context, and behavioral goals, with local G...

Deletion of the sodium leak channel NALCN in dopamine neurons alters D2R-mediated signalling and psychostimulant responsiveness.

Midbrain dopamine (DA)-neurons are slow pacemakers that continuously fire action potentials, maintaining basal extracellular DA levels in target regions. The sodium leak channel NALCN has been identified as a key contributor in the pacemaker control of these neurons. However, the consequences of a disrupted DA pacemake...

5-HT2A receptor activation induces CB1-dependent presynaptic inhibitory long-term depression in the nucleus accumbens core

The serotonin 2A receptor (5-HT 2A ) is a G q/11 -coupled receptor implicated in reward processing, neuropsychiatric disorders, and the actions of serotonergic psychedelics. Although 5-HT 2A activation has been shown to engage endocannabinoid (eCB) signaling in several brain regions, its role in inhibitory syna...

Activation of mu-opioid receptors slows pacemaking in hypothalamic A11 dopamine neurons.

Hypothalamic A11 dopamine neurons provide the only known source of spinal dopamine and critically modulate pain and motor systems. Yet, the electrophysiological properties of A11 neurons were unknown. Here, we characterized A11 dopamine neurons in mice using brain slice immunohistochemistry, and fluorescence-guided who...
