Technology-Mediated Gross Motor Skill Learning in Children Aged 3–12 Years: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Acquisition, Retention, and Transfer — Protocol

Abstract

Original version 1.1 description (planned methods): Prespecified protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of child-facing technology-mediated interventions for gross motor skill learning in typically developing children aged 3–12 years. The review distinguishes immediate acquisition from delayed retention and transfer/generalization and separately evaluates whole-program efficacy and technology-specific added value relative to active non-digital motor practice. Randomized and controlled non-randomized intervention studies are eligible. Version 1.1 documents the staged title/abstract screening procedure adopted on 19 September 2026. The subsequent change to the implemented methods is explained in the version history clarification below.Version history clarification (24 September 2026): Version 1.1 documents a planned screening amendment adopted on 19 September 2026, before formal title/abstract screening, but was first publicly released on 24 September 2026. A subsequent methodological deviation (AMD-003) was documented on 20 September 2026 after the second human assessor became unavailable. The completed review consequently used AI-assisted preliminary screening with final decisions by the primary reviewer and targeted human verification. Review-wide independent duplicate human assessment was not completed. The submitted manuscript describes the implemented procedures and acknowledges this limitation. Version 1.1 should therefore be understood as a historical record of the planned methods, not as a complete description of the methods ultimately implemented.
