Dolgun Model: From Willful Choice to Stable States - Dolgun Modeli: İradî Seçimden Kararlı Durumlara

Abstract

AbstractThis study proposes an original conceptual framework called the Dolgun Model to explain how human lifetransforms over time into specific behavioral orientations and relatively stable states through willful choices andactions. The primary starting point of the model is the idea that human life does not consist of disconnectedindividual choices, but rather of continuously repeating cycles of choice → action → consequence →awareness → evaluation → direction decision → new choice → new action. The accumulation of these smallcycles over time, through learning and reinforcement processes, can contribute to the formation of behavioralpatterns and cause these patterns to become increasingly stable orientations. The regulatory axis of the model is formed by the concepts of wasat (moderation/middle way) and mizan(balance/scale) in the Qur'an. Here, wasat is treated not as a mathematical average, a biological referencevalue, or a psychiatric normality criterion, but as a conceptual zone where functional behavioral andpsychological regulation can be sustained. When a behavioral pattern deviates from wasat, an orientation ofifrat (excess) or tefrit (deficiency) and an accompanying regulatory shift may emerge. Under certain conditions, this process can transform into a stable disruptive or corrective orientation. The distinguishing proposition of the Dolgun Model is that it treats behavioral deterioration and reorientation astwo separate aspects of the same dynamic system. In an unstable or deteriorating state, a new directiondecision made after awareness and evaluation can initiate the repetition of new choices and actions; a newbehavioral pattern can develop through learning and reinforcement. Therefore, islah (reformation/rectification)is conceptualized not as a separate mechanism added outside the system, but as the reorientation capacitywithin the life cycle itself. The model also derives a broader conclusion from the Qur'anic conception of the human being. It can beargued that Islam positions the human being not as a passive subject who merely accepts certain beliefs, butas an active agent who makes choices, acts, encounters consequences, evaluates oneself, decides on one'sdirection, changes direction when necessary, and acts anew. This perspective offers an alternative theoreticalproposition against approaches that explain religion solely as an opiate or a passivating social mechanism.Accordingly, Islam can be read as a dynamic path of life composed of choices and actions at the Qur'anic level. The Dolgun Model is not an empirically validated theory. The scientific claim of the model is not to discover anew habit or a neurobiological mechanism, but to integrate existing scientific mechanisms within a singleconceptual architecture inside the temporal organization of willful life, orientation formation, stabilization, andreorientation processes.ÖzBu çalışma, insan hayatının iradî seçimler ve eylemler yoluyla zaman içerisinde belirli davranışsalyönelimlere ve görece kararlı durumlara dönüşmesini açıklamak üzere Dolgun Modeli adı verilen özgünbir kavramsal çatı önermektedir.
