Value-based guidelines for the training of future elementary school teachers in the contemporary educational environment
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical justification for a system of value-based guidelines for the education of future elementary school teachers and to define their content in the context of a teacher's professional and personal development within the contemporary educational environment of a higher education institution. The relevance of this study stems from the need to strengthen the personal and value-based component of professional and pedagogical training in the context of the growing emphasis on child-centered education, partnership-based pedagogy, inclusivity, the competency-based approach, and the democratic principles of education. Research Methods. The methodological framework consisted of the axiological, person-oriented, competency-based, and systems approaches. Terminological analysis was used to clarify the meaning of the concepts "values," "value orientations," and "value benchmarks," along with content analysis of scientific works and normative documents, a comparative analysis of approaches by Ukrainian and foreign researchers, systematization, generalization, and theoretical modeling. Main Results. The relationship between the concepts of "values," "value orientations," and "value benchmarks" has been clarified: the latter are defined as the semantic and normative foundations that guide the professional self-determination, pedagogical choices, and behavior of future educators. Based on a synthesis of scientific and normative sources, a system has been developed comprising five interrelated groups: humanistic-personal, professional-pedagogical, social-communicative, civic-patriotic, and multicultural reference points. The content of each group and its functional orientation in a teacher's professional development have been defined: ranging from recognizing the value of the child's personality and professional responsibility to ensuring collaborative interaction, civic orientation, and openness to cultural diversity. It has been established that the integrity of the system is ensured by the interconnection of all its components, and the result of their integration is the value-based stance of the future teacher, who is capable of aligning professional decisions with humanistic, professional, civic, and multicultural principles. The mechanism for the formation of value orientations is substantiated as a sequence of interrelated stages: awareness of a value, its personal acceptance, gaining experience in its implementation, reflective understanding, and consolidation in professional behavior. It has been determined that the educational environment of a higher education institution must ensure not only the transmission of values but also opportunities for their practical application in academic, professional, communicative, project-based, and socially significant activities. The scientific novelty lies in the systematic justification of five groups of value orientations and the identification of their interrelationships as the foundation for the professional and personal development of future educators. The theoretical understanding of the mechanism by which these values are formed has been refined through a combination of awareness, personal acceptance, practical implementation, reflection, and consolidation in professional behavior. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the possibility of using the proposed system when designing the content of professional and pedagogical training, educational work, practical classes, and students' extracurricular activities. The identified groups can serve as a basis for developing diagnostic criteria and indicators, pedagogical case studies, professional choice scenarios, reflective tasks, projects, and socially meaningful practices aimed at shaping the value orientation of future educators.
