IoT-ML for Smart City Traffic Management and Dynamic Routing

Sep 2026

Abstract

Urban areas face severe traffic congestion, pollution, and economic losses from rising populations and vehicle density. Traditional fixed-timing controls fail under dynamic conditions. IoT-ML integration enables smart city dynamic routing. IoT sensors, GPS, and connected vehicles provide real-time traffic data. ML techniques—deep learning, reinforcement learning, predictive analytics—process this for optimized signals, congestion prediction, and adaptive routing. Related efforts leverage V2X communication, edge computing, and blockchain for secure, scalable data management. Challenges include data privacy, infrastructure costs, and computational demands. Results show reduced travel times, lower emissions, and sustainable mobility, fostering autonomous smart city traffic systems.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.
