Overall, the findings elucidate a novel physiological function of bZIP68 in flowering regulation and its potential binding partners that may contribute to its function.

Abstract

Simple Summary The physiological function of the transcription factor bZIP68 is relatively unknown, although it has been implicated in redox-related processes and photomorphogenic regulation. Through comprehensive bioinformatic analyses, we identified a potential association between bZIP68 and the regulation of flowering and responses to abiotic stress. Furthermore, we revealed several candidate factors that may function together with bZIP68. Phenotypic evaluation of five potential independent mutant lines revealed altered flowering phenotypes compared to wild-type plants. Overall, our findings elucidate a novel physiological function of bZIP68 in flowering regulation and its potential binding partners that may contribute to its function.

Functional genomics in the WRKY transcription factor family: from model systems to crop species and beyond

WRKY transcription factors regulate plant responses to abiotic and biotic stresses. We reviewed studies of eight well-characterized Arabidopsis WRKY genes and their orthologs in Chinese cabbage, maize, rice, and tomato to assess conservation of stress-response functions. Many WRKY genes showed roles in both stress cate...

In Silico Characterization of bZIP Transcription Factor Gene Family and its Expression Under Abiotic Stress in Spinacia oleracea

This work extends comparative knowledge of the bZIP family in the Amaranthaceae, shows that spinach retains 12 of the 13 Arabidopsis bZIP subfamilies, and identifies candidate genes responsive to heat stress and salicylic acid treatment for future functional studies.

ZmNAC20 positively regulates drought tolerance in maize seedlings via a chromatin-associated network.

The potential yield and establishment of maize are severely restricted by early developmental drought. Although NAC transcription factors are known to control abiotic stress responses, the role of NAC transcription factor 20 (ZmNAC20) in maize drought adaptation remains unclear. We characterized the function of ZmNAC20...
