Challenges of Cybersecurity in Intelligent Health Systems
Abstract
The evolution of healthcare into a data-centric, intelligent, and connected field has resulted in better diagnostic precision, targeted treatments, remote monitoring, and operational effectiveness. But the evolution also makes sensitive medical information and vital health operations vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. The chapter discusses cybersecurity threats in intelligent health systems (IHS) such as cloud storage, AI-based analytics, mobile health, wearable sensors, and EHR/EMR systems. Technical issues involve secure interoperability, real-time threat detection, medical device vulnerabilities, encryption overhead, and network segmentation. Human and organizational issues involve low cybersecurity awareness among clinicians, lack of cyber hygiene, disjointed IT policies, and resource limitations. Ethical and legal concerns in smart healthcare cybersecurity involve patient consent, data ownership, cross-border data flow, algorithmic bias, and adherence to regulatory paradigms such as HIPAA, GDPR, and India&s;s DPDPA. Strategic solutions range from privacy-preserving AI models to zero-trust architectures, federated learning, blockchain, biometric-based access controls, and adaptive intrusion detection systems. International collaborations and implementation of policies are enabling a robust and smart healthcare ecosystem.
