Abstract

Educational institutions are increasingly expected to create learning environments that are responsive, innovative, and supportive of both academic and professional development. Contemporary research highlights the importance of assessment practices that promote learning, technology-supported systems that address individual needs, and staff development programmes that strengthen institutional performance. The chapters in this volume examine selected issues related to assessment, personalized learning, and professional development in education. The first chapter discusses alternative assessment strategies in modern pedagogy, emphasizing approaches that move beyond standardized testing. The second chapter explores intelligent tutorial systems and personalized learning, with attention to pedagogical principles, design challenges, and future directions. The third chapter investigates the effect of training and development programmes on the performance of non-teaching staff at Gombe State University.
