Static Structural Analysis of a Bending-Roll Carpet Squeezing Machine Frame Using SolidWorks Simulation

Abstract

The carpet cleaning industry requires an efficient drying process to improve productivity and reduce dependence on weather conditions. Conventional drying methods rely on natural sunlight, resulting in long drying times and inconsistent drying quality. This study aims to design and evaluate the structural performance of a bending-roll carpet squeezing machine using finite element analysis (FEA) in SolidWorks Simulation. The research methodology consisted of literature review, three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) modeling, material selection, static loading analysis, mesh generation, and numerical simulation. The frame was modeled using structural steel material and analyzed under the combined load of the machine components and wet carpet. Structural performance was evaluated through Von Mises stress, displacement, and factor of safety. The simulation results indicated that the maximum stress remained below the yield strength of the selected material, while the maximum displacement was relatively small and did not affect machine performance. In addition, the factor of safety satisfied the structural design requirements, indicating that the proposed frame can safely withstand the intended operational load. The results demonstrate that finite element analysis is an effective method for validating structural designs prior to fabrication, reducing the possibility of structural failure and minimizing manufacturing costs. The proposed machine is expected to provide a practical and energy-efficient solution for mechanical carpet water removal in small- and medium-scale carpet cleaning industries.
