Abstract
Introduction. In women in the Russian Federation, malignant neoplasms of the breast are the leading oncological pathology, which is a multifactorial disease requiring a comprehensive approach to study.The aim of the study was to study the features of breast cancer incidence and mortality due to it in women of an industrial city with high level of air pollution.Materials and methods. The study of breast cancer incidence and mortality among female residents of Novokuznetsk for 2014-2025 was based on an analysis of materials from the territorial Cancer Registry 6FB for the Kemerovo region with statistical processing using the MS Excel package. Gross emissions into the atmosphere and average annual concentrations of carcinogenic pollutants were assessed on the base of official reports for the period 2014–2024. Maximum permissible concentrations of substances were assessed according to the Sanitary Rules and Norms 1.2.3685–21. There were were examined one hundred fifty nine women, 104 of whom had been diagnosed with breast cancer and 55 had no suggestion for cancer of the breast. Using the polymerase chain reaction method, variants of the CYP1A1*2A (rs4646903) gene of the first phase of the xenobiotic biotransformation system were identified in all subjects examined.Results. In Novokuznetsk, over the past 10 years, there was an increase in the incidence of breast cancer and mortality of it among women. Between 2014 and 2025, the number of women with firstly proven diagnosis increased by 23.4%, while the proportion of early detection of the disease at stage I raised by 16%. The total individual carcinogenic risk corresponded to the permissible (acceptable) level in 2017, 2018, and 2020, and to the alarming level in the remaining years. A positive correlation was found between the incidence of cancer and the total volume of gross emissions into the city’s atmosphere (rs = 0.45), as well as average annual concentrations of formaldehyde (rs = 0.19), and benzopyrene (rs = 0.07). A weak positive correlation was revealed between the number of deaths due to breast cancer and average annual concentrations of benzopyrene. A statistically reliable association was shown between the AA genotype (χ² – 4.04; OR – 2.06) of the phase 1 detoxification gene – CYP1A1*2A (rs4646903) with the risk of breast cancer.Limitations of the study were determined by the lack of data on average annual carbon (soot) concentrations since 2022 and the need to further increase the sample for genetic studies.Conclusion. Cancer remains a major public health concern globally and is the second leading cause of death in Libya. Despite its growing burden, comprehensive data on cancer incidence in eastern Libya remains limited. This study aims to estimate the incidence and distribution of cancer types in the eastern region of Benghazi, Libya, and compare findings with regional and global data to support health planning, training, and research efforts. A retrospective observational surveillance study was conducted using data from oncology departments at Tobruk Medical Center and Al-Bayda Hospital. All cancer cases diagnosed and registered from January 1 to December 31, 2021, were included. A total of 398 confirmed cases were analyzed by sex, type, and frequency. Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS v26 with chi-square tests applied for gender related differences. The overall incidence was 61.23 cases per 100,000 population. Females constituted 58.5% of cases, with breast cancer being the most prevalent (24.1%), followed by colon (9%), uterine (8.2%), and lung cancers (7.78%). Male patients were more affected by colon, lung, and prostate cancers. Hematological malignancies and rare cancers were also observed, with statistically significant gender-based differences (p < 0.001). Comparisons with data from Misurata and global estimates revealed similar trends for certain cancers but also notable local variations, particularly in colon and esophageal cancer rates. This study provides critical epidemiological insight into cancer incidence in eastern Libya. The findings highlight the need for sex-specific cancer strategies and reinforce the importance of establishing a comprehensive national cancer registry for improved disease surveillance and healthcare planning.

Breast cancer, or neoplasm of the breast, is one of the most common cancers affecting women globally; It can occur in both men and women, but it is more commonly found in women than in men. This research investigated the malignancy solely in women. The study aimed to explore the impact of lifestyle, family history, and environmental factors on the development of breast cancer among 80 women in hospitals in the Calabar metropolis. A purposive sampling technique (census approach) was employed, wherein all historical records within the Calabar cancer registry matching the inclusion parameters between 2014 and 2024 were extracted. Regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between these factors and the development of breast cancer. The coefficient of determination (R2) values of 0.11, 0.16, and 0.60 for lifestyle, environmental, and family history factors, respectively, suggested that these factors have 11%, 16%, and 60% influence on the development of breast cancer among the studied population. However, the results of the study also indicated that lifestyle, environmental, and familial history factors did not have a significant impact on the development of breast cancer among the participants, as the associated probability values were greater than the level of significance (P < 0.05) for all the three factors.

Objective. A comprehensive epidemiological analysis of the incidence of malignant neoplasms (MN) of the reproductive system in adults in Russia and the Moscow region over recent years. Material and methods. A retrospective epidemiological analysis was conducted using official state statistics from the Russian Federation from 2011 to 2023. The analysis included MN of the female (breast, vulva, vagina, cervix, uterine body, ovaries, placenta) and male (penis, prostate, testicles) reproductive systems. Incidence was analyzed over time and among different age and sex groups of the adult population (18 years and older). Results. Among the female population, over the 13-year period under review, the incidence of MN in the Russian Federation increased by 33.6% compared to the baseline. Breast cancer accounted for the largest proportion of cases, increasing from 53.1% to 57.0%. A comparison of the intensive incidence rates among the female population in the study areas revealed a trend toward a moderate increase. Among the male population, the incidence of cancer also increased by 50.1%, with the largest proportion of cases being prostate cancer; this rate increased from 94.0 to 96.7%. A moderate increase in the incidence of penile and prostate cancer was noted. For breast, vaginal, and prostate cancer, the highest average annual incidence rates were observed in the 70—79 age group; for vulvar and penile cancer, in the 80 and older age group; and for uterine and ovarian cancer, in the 60—69 age group. The highest average annual incidence rate for cervical cancer is in the 40—49 age group, while in the 30—39 age group, this rate is 26.4 per 100.000. Conclusion. When analyzing the incidence of reproductive system cancers, it is worth noting that, as with most cancers, there has been an increase in incidence rates over the past decade. This epidemiological analysis can serve as a basis for further planning and improving measures aimed at preventing reproductive system cancers both in the Moscow region and nationwide.

This study was conducted on data registered at the National Cancer Institute of Misurata in the year 2022. This study aimed to determine the most registered tumors and the most registered age groups, as well as the cities from which the cases were received. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program, version 22. A total of 786 confirmed cases during the year 2022 were included in the analysis. The results of the statistical analysis revealed that the 51–60 age group exhibited the highest cancer frequency, accounting for 22.9%, whereas the 11–20 age group registered the lowest proportion, at just 1.9%. In terms of cities, the highest proportion of cases was in the city of Misurata, at a rate of 40.7%, where the number of cases reached 320, and the lowest proportion of cases was in the city of Misallata, where the number of cases reached 42. In terms of type, the highest frequency was observed for breast cancer, representing 23.3% (183), while the lowest frequency was noted for esophageal cancer, comprising merely 0.3%, reaching two. In terms of gender, the highest prevalence rate was for females, at a rate of 54.3%, where the number of cases reached 427 cases, and the lowest prevalence rate was for males, at a rate of 45.7%, where the number of cases reached 359 cases. According to the results obtained, it is recommended to hold a scientific seminar for community education about the symptoms of cancer and the importance of early diagnosis through the implementation of screening programs for cancer.

Introduction: Oral cancer presents high mortality rates in Brazil, showing increasing rates in the states of the Northeast. Objective: To analyze the factors associated with mortality from oral cancer in the municipalities of Alagoas from 2013 to 2023. Method: Ecological study conducted using data from the Mortality Information System (SIM) and IBGE on deaths from mouth cancer classified according to CID-10 codes C00-C09, by residence, in medium and large-sized municipalities of Alagoas. Socioeconomic and health service access indicators were obtained from the 2010 and 2022 censuses, E-Gestor Primary Care, and the Oncology Panel. The data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel and analyzed in STATA SE 11.2 using a multivariate Poisson regression model with random effects. Results: A total of 366 deaths were reported in medium and large-sized municipalities in the state of Alagoas between 2013 and 2023. Mortality rates ranged from 0 to 0.83 deaths per 10,000 inhabitants across different municipalities. Despite variations in mortality rates and the analyzed indicators, no statistically significant association was identified between oral cancer mortality and socioeconomic or healthcare access indicators. Conclusion: Although no variable showed statistical significance, the study demonstrated the persistent occurrence of oral cancer mortality throughout the analyzed decade, as well as low socioeconomic and healthcare access indicators in medium- and large-sized municipalities in the state of Alagoas.

Breast cancer is second cause of death in women and continue to be a threat globally, this study examined the epidemiology analysis of breast cancer in-patients in Zamfara State over 10 years period that spanned 2012 – 2021. The scope of the study covers three General hospitals in Zamfara State, Nigeria namely; Federal Medical Centre Gusau Zamfara State, General Hospital Gusau Zamfara State, and Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau Zamfara State. Data was sourced basically through secondary means from breast cancer incidence registers in the three hospitals of the study for the period of 2012 to 2021. The findings of the study show that breast cancer is prevalence among the female gender. The results from the analysis also showed that the prevalence of the disease differs among different age groups while the age range 50 to 59 seems to have the highest prevalence. For the young persons under 30 years, it was found that the incidence was very low, but for the elderly persons the incidence was very high. its recommended that health education or sensitization should be given along with regular breast cancer screening to women, especially post-menopausal women, and early regular screening for women in reproductive age group will help in early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
