Genome-Wide Association Study of Body Conformation and Carcass Composition Traits in Landrace Pigs
Abstract
Simple Summary Improving pork production efficiency is a primary goal for the agricultural industry. While traits like body size (length and height), backfat thickness (BFT), and lean meat percentage (LMP) directly determine meat yield, their genetic bases remains incompletely understood. This study investigated the genetic architecture of these traits in Landrace pigs. We identified 10 unique genetic markers (SNPs) and highlighted two shared genomic regions: one influencing both BFT and LMP, and another affecting body length and height. These findings advance our understanding of pig growth biology. These candidate markers hold potential for genomic selection to simultaneously improve body size and meat yield.
