Abstract
The digital transformation of the Mexican healthcare system represents a strategic process for strengthening continuity of care, improving the timeliness of healthcare delivery, and optimising the management of clinical information. The analysis addresses the progress and challenges associated with interoperability, electronic health records, telehealth, and the secure exchange of data, considering their implications for institutional integration, information security, and the quality of healthcare services. A qualitative, descriptive documentary study was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, drawing on scientific and regulatory sources related to healthcare digitalisation in Mexico. The findings indicate progress in the adoption of digital technologies, although challenges persist regarding platform compatibility, data standardisation, connectivity, institutional integration, and the secure management of information. Telehealth broadens opportunities for healthcare delivery, particularly where geographical barriers exist, but requires adequate infrastructure and digital competencies. Consolidating an integrated digital healthcare system requires stronger interoperability, greater integration of clinical records, expanded connectivity, and robust mechanisms for data governance and protection.
The challenge lies not merely in digitising processes, but in building an interoperable, assessable and equitable ecosystem centred on the needs of patients and professionals across the country.
