TL;DR

Although IL‐6 SNPs could potentially serve as biomarkers for disease susceptibility and progression, larger‐scale studies across diverse regions and populations are required to confirm their clinical significance.

Abstract

Interleukin 6 (IL‐6), a type of cytokine, plays a role in the onset, progression, and prognosis of various diseases. IL‐6's single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) markedly affect clinical conditions by influencing gene expression, including that of other cytokines. This review synthesizes existing literature to explore the relationship between IL‐6 SNPs and diseases. Current evidence indicates that these SNPs are associated with the clinicopathological features of different diseases, with these associations partly influenced by population ethnicity. Although IL‐6 SNPs could potentially serve as biomarkers for disease susceptibility and progression, larger‐scale studies across diverse regions and populations are required to confirm their clinical significance.

Joint association of cytokine gene variants and circulating inflammatory markers with increased breast cancer risk

The systemic inflammatory milieu, shaped by host genetics, is a key component of the tumor immune microenvironment. This paper anticipated to decode the crosstalk between germline variations in key cytokine genes and their corresponding circulating serum levels in relation to breast cancer risk. The present investi...

Association of the Il-6 −174 G/C (Rs1800795) Polymorphism with Disease Severity and Inflammatory Markers in Patients with Covid-19

Background: COVID-19 severity is strongly influenced by the intensity of the inflammatory response. Genetic variants regulating IL-6 production may contribute to individual differences in disease progression. Objective: To evaluate the association of the IL6 −174 G/C (rs1800795) polymorphism with COVID-19 severity and i...

Association analysis of IL‑6 polymorphisms and relevant biomarkers in patients with renal failure

. The present study aimed to clarify the relationship between polymorphisms present in the interleukin‑6 (IL‑6) gene (rs1800795 and rs1800797) and the susceptibility to chronic kidney disease (CKD), while concurrently examining critical biochemical markers (urea, creatinine, albumin, calcium, phosphate and glucose) alo...

CONTRIBUTION OF TOLL-LIKE RECEPTORS AND CYTOKINE GENES POLYMORPHISMS TO THE RISK OF DEVELOPING ULCERATIVE COLITIS

Introduction. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the incidence of which continues to rise in urbanized populations, remains a common problem. Over 260 genetic loci associated with IBD have been identified, many of which are involved in immune sensing and signaling pathways [3]. Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a multifactoria...

The Shared IL‐12/IL‐35 p35 Subunit Is Associated With Heightened Atherogenic Risk in African Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Interleukin (IL)‐12 and IL‐35 are heterodimeric cytokines that share the p35 subunit and have opposing inflammatory roles. Dysregulated IL‐12/IL‐35 p35 may reflect an imbalance between pro‐ and anti‐inflammatory pathways linking metabolic dysfunction to cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the clinica...
