Abstract
We study the dynamics of an athermal inertial active particle confined in a harmonic potential and moving through shear‐thickening media in one dimension. The activity is modeled using a symmetric dichotomous noise of strength and flipping rate , which mimics a run‐and‐tumble particle. The shear‐thickening response of the medium is incorporated through a velocity‐dependent viscous force of the form . Starting from the Fokker–Planck equations corresponding to the particle's dynamics, we numerically compute the time‐dependent joint probability density function using a
finite‐volume upwind scheme
. Next, we numerically solve the particle's equations of motion to obtain the steady‐state position and velocity distributions, and compare them with the marginal distributions obtained from at sufficiently large . The two approaches show excellent agreement. Both and exhibit several intriguing transitions as is varied, and they eventually approach a Gaussian‐like profile at sufficiently large . Our study of the time‐dependent position‐velocity correlation, , shows that larger values of lead to faster relaxation to the steady‐state when all other parameters are constant.
Within a three-fluid description of heavy-ion collisions, we investigate how nuclear friction can be used to model shear stress. In this multi-fluid approach, the individual fluids (projectile, target and fireball) are each treated as locally equilibrated ideal fluids at all times, while the local energy-momentum tenso...
Abstract Content of image described in text. This study employs a direct-forcing fictitious-domain method combined with the Oldroyd-B model to investigate the dynamics of spherical and oblate spheroidal particles in a viscoelastic shear flow. By varying the particle Reynolds number (0.1 ≤ Re p ≤ 10) and the Weissenberg...

We present a numerical study of oscillating three-dimensional rigid particles in both linear viscoelastic and viscous Newtonian fluids. Based on the correspondence principle between unsteady Stokes flow and linear viscoelastic fluids, we establish a unified integral formulation in the frequency domain, which is solved...

The Kelvin–Helmholtz instability is a fundamental signature of the natural world, manifesting in phenomena ranging from atmospheric clouds to the iconic turbulence of Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. While the linear dynamics of this instability is well-understood, the ultimate fate of the fluid—the final stationary state to...
