Abstract

β-lactoglobulin (LGB) is a major whey protein in ruminant milk. Its genetic polymorphism is of great interest due to its influence on the qualitative and technological properties of milk. The experiment was con-ducted within a small Holstein-Friesian population reared at the Academic Technological Complex of Trakia University – Stara Zagora and aims to determine the gene and genotype frequency distribution of the two major alleles of the β-lactoglobulin locus – A and B. The molecular analyses of the LGB gene were completed using the Axiom Bovine Genotyping Array v3. The observed frequencies were compared to the expected val-ues according to the Hardy-Weinberg principle. The results obtained demonstrate that the frequency of allele A is 0.73, while allele B has a frequency of 0.27. The performed χ² test revealed the studied population is in a state of genetic equilibrium (χ² = 0.0189332, df=1, P>0.05).

Polymorphism of the CSN3 gene and its association with the blood biochemical profile in Holstein cattle

Molecular genetic markers, such as the polymorphism of the kappa-casein gene (CSN3), are a important tool for increasing the efficiency of dairy cattle breeding. The aim of this study was to investigate CSN3 polymorphism in a Holstein cattle population and to assess its associations with blood biochemical parameters re...

ASSOCIATION OF FABP T3499A GENOTYPE WITH BODY MEASUREMENTS, TEMPERATURE, AND MILK PRODUCTION PARAMETERS IN IRAQI BUFFALOES

The study aimed to detect the genotype of the FABP gene T>A: 3499 in a sample of 41 buffaloes to investigate the relation between this genotype and several productive traits. The study was conducted from October 1st, 2024, to January 30th, 2025, at the Ruminant Research Station in Abu Ghraib. By detecting the genotype...

Predicting Predisposition to Subclinical Ketosis in Holstein Cattle Based on Polymorphism Analysis of the DGAT1, GHR and GH_2141 Genes

This article presents the results of a study investigating the genetic factors influencing the predisposition of first-lactation Holstein cows to subclinical ketosis, based on an analysis of polymorphisms in the DGAT1, GHR, and GH_2141 genes. The study involved 940 first-lactation cows housed at the "Krasnodarskoe" tra...

Complex combination of polymorphic variants of the OPN and IGF-1 genes in a cattle population

The article presents the results of a study on the combined genotypes of OPN (c.8514C/T) and IGF-1 (512T/C) genes in a population of Holstein heifers (n=202). The experiment was conducted at the Lenin Breeding Farm (Atninsky District, Republic of Tatarstan), and laboratory analyses were carried out at the Tatar R...

Genome-wide association study reveals key genomic regions underlying colostrability in Italian Holstein cattle

Colostrum yield (CY, L) and concentration of immunoglobulin G (IgG, g/L) are important phenotypes to monitor in dairy farms because of their association with the risk of failure of the passive transfer of immunity in the newborn calf. This can occur when the CY of the parturient cow is insufficient or when the IgG conc...
