Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyse the Educational Leadership and Management systems in the higher education sector in Botswana. Utilising the ongoing relationship between leadership and the educational practice and policy formation and institutional management, it can discover how the HEIs act in between wider social, political, cultural and economic orders and systems. The study employs a qualitative research design to explore the perspectives of key factors, including university administrators, faculty and policymakers, on structures of leadership, mechanisms of decision making, governance challenges and opportunities. The qualitative methodology of in-depth interviews and document review examines the influential factors in leadership effectiveness, independence, and the role of government policy in the outcomes of HEIs. The findings of the study will offer some depth and breadth into the complicated of women’s educational leadership in the African context and Botswana in general and will provide recommendations on how education sector outcomes can be improved through appropriate management practices. The study will offer guidelines that inform the policy and practice recommendations on how to strengthen the leadership and management systems of higher education institutions in Botswana.
