Abstract
Climate risk poses growing challenges to food availability and the resilience of urban food systems.
Using panel data for 298 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2023, this study employs a two-way fixed-effects model to examine the impact of climate risk on production-side food security, its transmission mechanisms, and regional heterogeneity.
The results show that climate risk significantly reduces city-level grain output, and this finding remains robust to alternative specifications and endogeneity treatments. Mechanism analyses indicate that climate risk weakens food availability by adversely affecting agricultural mechanization, effective irrigation, grain-sown area, and fiscal support for agriculture. The negative effect is more pronounced in non-major grain-producing areas and regions with lower adaptive capacity. Further analysis suggests that climate risk also undermines agricultural economic performance and food-supply stability.
These findings provide city-level evidence on how climate shocks affect production-side food security and highlight the importance of strengthening agricultural production conditions and adaptive capacity to enhance food-system resilience and safeguard nutrition security.
Climate change has emerged as a major driver of food systems instability, particularly in developing economies dependent on climate-sensitive agriculture. India, where a substantial proportion of households rely on agriculture for livelihood and food access, faces increasing vulnerability to climate-induced food price...
Research Originality: This study offers a comprehensive empirical analysis of temperature, heat stress, and flood shocks, alongside environmental and socioeconomic factors, to analyze livestock production dynamics, sustainability, and food security in Pakistan.
Research Objectives: The study investigates the short- and...
Against the backdrop of intensified global climate change, the increasing frequency of extreme weather events poses persistent shocks to rural areas that rely on agricultural production. However, the micro-level mechanisms through which climate risk affects household financial vulnerability in ecologically fragile area...
Even though climate change poses significant risks to food and water security, little attention has been paid to the dynamics of short- and long-term interactions between these two dimensions, especially in the context of Saudi Arabia. This paper aims to assess the influence of variations in climate parameters such a...

Extreme climate shocks are increasingly reshaping the sustainability, resilience, and environmental performance of grain production systems, particularly in countries facing the dual challenge of safeguarding food security and accelerating agricultural green transformation. This study investigates how extreme climate r...
