Abstract
Augmented reality (AR) workspaces allow flexible placement of virtual displays, but the joint effects of layout geometry and display count remain unclear. We conducted two within-subjects studies (N = 20 each) evaluating four layouts (flat, cylindrical, spherical, stacked) under sparse (4) and dense (15) display counts. Primary participant-level analyses show that display count is the dominant factor, severely degrading performance and increasing workload (p <.005). Layout effects are secondary but become critical under high density, where spherical and stacked arrangements introduce significant performance and physical trade-offs. Gaze-derived metrics reveal layout-specific attentional adaptations, offering new insights for spatial UI design.
Immersive technologies can transform 3D space into an extended information space. Such environments allow users to access and organize multiple information units simultaneously, thereby supporting sensemaking processes. Prior studies have observed that users in VR often arrange virtual displays, individual information...

Visual search is critical in real-world tasks, from soldiers identifying hazards to drivers locating people or objects. Augmented reality head-mounted displays (AR-HMDs) can aid search by overlaying visual guidance on the user’s field of view. However, it remains unclear which cue properties are most effective during d...

It is suggested that in unpredictable multi-display environments, what display you transition to matters as much as the act of switching itself, with implications for the design of OST AR interfaces where transitions between head-worn and external displays are frequent.

Findings show that inter-object spacing does not simply make search globally easier or harder, but reorganizes visual exploration strategies in immersive VR in a way that is consistent with visual crowding principles, while also reflecting other spacing-dependent factors such as scene extent, effective field of view, a...

Wearable Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as VR/XR head-mounted displays, enable immersive interaction with complex data that is commonly organized in a tabular format. However, precisely and efficiently selecting tabular data in immersive environments is challenging due to input instability and spatial tracking...

We present an augmented reality (AR) piano-playing system investigating the effectiveness of three visual cue strategies for guided key-press interaction. Using a within-subjects design, we evaluated reaction time, error rate, mental workload, and system usability. Although key-pressing performance yielded no statistic...
