Abstract
The article describes four medicinal and melliferous species of the genus Asclepias L. (A. incarnata L., A. curassavica L., A. syriaca L., A. tuberosa L.) introduced and studied at the National Botanical Garden (Institute) “Al. Ciubotaru” of the Moldova State University. Morphological descriptions of the taxa are presented, accompanied by original photographs, information on their distribution ranges, the profile of their bioactive compounds and their therapeutic importance. The study also evaluates phenological characteristics, as well as the growth and developmental features of the plants under ex situ conditions. The results of the study show that, based on the duration and abundance of flowering, the species A. incarnata and A. syriaca are of practical interest for the pharmaceutical and beekeeping sectors.

Pentagonia santanderensis (Rubiaceae, Dialypetalantheae) is described and illustrated from the department of Santander, occurring in the municipalities of Cimitarra, La Belleza, and Landázuri in fragmented forests and primary forest edges associated with water sources. We compare this new taxon with morphologically similar species; the size of its leaves, the magenta coloration of the strongly pleated leaf bases, and the color, indumentum, and size of the corolla, as well as the fruits, are diagnostic characters. This new species increases the number of Pentagonia species recorded in Colombia to 23. Based on the IUCN criteria, P. santanderensis is assessed as Endangered (EN B2a(ii)b(iii)) due to its restricted distribution and continuing decline in habitat quality.

The paper includes data on species of the genus Rosalia from collection of the Museum of Entomology, Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University (MSU). The species Rosalia alpina is present in the fauna of the Republic of Moldova, while the species Rosalia coelestis occurs in the Russian Far East. The study was based on materials accumulated through the authors’ own observations conducted during the period 2018–2025, as well as on specimens from the insect collection of the Institute of Zoology, MSU. The biology, ecology and habitat preferences of the species R. alpina are discussed. The presence of two small populations of this species in the „Plaiul Fagului” Nature Reserve and the „Codrii” Nature Reserve was confirmed. The obtained results together with an analysis of the relevant literature prove the importance to create and maintain strictly protected areas, with the preservation and conservation of ancient trees. Preserved and sustainably managed natural forest habitats are essential for the maintenance and restoration of rare saproxylic invertebrate populations, including the species Rosalia alpina.

A new species of the genus Besleria Plum. ex L. (Gesneriaceae), endemic to the Andean forests of the Eastern Cordillera of Colombia in the department of Cundinamarca, is described and illustrated. Besleria atopa Solano-C., D. Ruiz-Mol. & Zapata-Corr. is readily distinguished by a combination of characters including decumbent stems, solitary axillary flowers, and laterally compressed yellow corollas. The new species is morphologically similar to B. immitis C. V. Morton, which occurs in the Amazon basin of Colombia, and to B. barbensis Hanst., found in Costa Rica and Panama.

The rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus Kuschel (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is one of the most destructive pests of rice worldwide. Native to North America, the species has progressively expanded its distribution to Asia and Europe, where it has established stable populations and caused significant economic losses. In June 2023, regular field inspections conducted in two commercial rice fields in the Kocani rice growing region of the Republic of North Macedonia revealed the presence of adult specimens and characteristic feeding damage on rice plants. A total of 27 adult individuals were collected using an entomological sweep net under permanent flooding conditions. Identification was based exclusively on morphological characteristics observed under stereomicroscopy and comparison with published taxonomic keys. This study represents the first confirmed record of L. oryzophilus in the Republic of North Macedonia and indicates a potential risk for rice production in the region.

Acantholimon joharchii, a new species from northeastern Iran, is described and illustrated. The species belongs to Acantholimon sect. Acantholimon and is characterized by monomorphic, persistent leaves and one-flowered spikelets. It is morphologically most similar to A. gillii but differs in having oblong-obovate bracteoles that are distinctly shorter than the calyx tube, a longer calyx tube (6–6.5 mm), and calyx veins reaching the margin of the limb. A. joharchii occurs in mountainous habitats, on shallow, gravelly, and rocky soils. The species appears to have a very narrow distribution and may require conservation attention. Diagnostic characters, morphology, and habitat of the new species are discussed, highlighting its distinctiveness from related taxa.
