Stata Replication Package for "Workplace Generative AI and the Separation of Operational Discretion from Temporal Job Quality"

Abstract

This Stata replication package supports the paper "Workplace Generative AI and the Separation of Operational Discretion from Temporal Job Quality". It provides analysis code, data-access instructions, variable crosswalks, aggregate results and verification files. The analysis uses paid-employee samples from the Canadian Survey on Working Conditions 2024-2025 (N = 20,538) and European Working Conditions Survey 2024 (N = 29,813 across 35 countries). Separate survey-weighted cross-sectional models compare operational discretion with a temporal job-quality profile comprising lower work intensity, time adequacy and free-time protection. The results describe associations; they do not identify causal effects or the allocation of task time saved. Running 00_master.do reconstructs the analysis files and produces three main tables, eleven supplementary tables and Figure 1. Canadian uncertainty estimates use all 1,000 released PUMF generalised bootstrap replicate weights. European estimates use calibration weights, primary sampling units, strata and country fixed effects. The package includes component-removal, overlap, profile-rescaling, specification, influence and working-time coding checks. Supplementary Table S11 reports conditional proportional-selection calculations under residualised-fit, total-fit and full-explanation assumptions, including equal-selection total-R-squared benchmarks. These calculations are conditional point calculations rather than causal identification or sign-reversal bounds. The workflow requires Stata/SE 18 or later, was validated with StataNow/SE 19.5, and uses no user-written Stata commands. The supplied aggregate CSV supports regeneration of Figure 1 without microdata. Respondent-level microdata, derived respondent records and local execution logs are excluded. Reproducing the full analysis requires authorised access to the three source files named in data/raw/README_DATA_ACCESS.md. Licence scope: MIT applies to the Stata .do files. CC BY 4.0 applies to author-created documentation, metadata and aggregate outputs. Third-party survey microdata remain subject to their distributors' access conditions and are not licensed or distributed by this package. See LICENSES.md and LICENSE-MIT.txt in the archive.
