PCCT provided VNC measurements with errors closer to zero and less dependent on iodine than EID-CT in the phantom, and error was generally small in non-blood-pool tissues and was not associated with iodine concentration.
Background Use of virtual noncontrast (VNC) images from photon-counting CT (PCCT) may reduce radiation dose and support quantitative lung analysis by obviating the need for separate true noncontrast (TNC) acquisitions. Their accuracy for lung densitometry, however, has not been systematically assessed. Purpose To evalu...

The purpose of this work was to evaluate image quality of non-contrast neurological CT scans on a commercially available energy-integrating detector (EID) CT compared to a prototype deep silicon (dSi) photon-counting detector CT (PCCT). A cohort of subjects scanned on the EID-CT (Apex CT, GE HealthCare, Waukesha, WI) w...

Electron density provides a significantly better CNR for liver metastases with electron density derived from dual-energy computed tomography compared with both conventional and VMI at 40 keV reconstructions, in both the unenhanced and portal-dominant phases.
For spinal implants, PCD-CT offers effective approaches for metal artifact and 120 keV is preferred and the combination of iMAR and 120 keV introduce new artifacts and requires careful consideration.
