Abstract
Municipal solid waste management and renewable energy development are increasingly linked through Waste-to-Energy (WtE) systems. This study evaluates the contribution of the Putri Cempo RDF Gasification facility in Surakarta, Indonesia, to Green Campus implementation at Universitas Sebelas Maret. A qualitative case study integrating sustainability assessment, policy review and SWOT analysis was undertaken using operational records, institutional documents and international literature. The facility processes about 545 tonnes of municipal waste per day and generates 8 MW of electricity, approximately 5 MW of which is exported to the national grid. Beyond reducing landfill dependence and greenhouse gas emissions, the facility functions as a living laboratory supporting interdisciplinary education, research and university-government collaboration. The study proposes an integrated framework linking WtE infrastructure, circular economy, renewable energy transition and Green Campus governance. The findings demonstrate that municipal WtE systems can simultaneously strengthen climate mitigation, renewable energy deployment and sustainability-oriented higher education.
Rapid tourism development and urban growth in Bali have increased municipal solid waste (MSW) generation while simultaneously raising the demand for sustainable energy infrastructure. Although waste-to-energy (WtE) and solar photovoltaic (PV) technologieshave been widely studied, integrated assessments linking waste ma...

Selecting an appropriate waste-to-energy (WTE) process requires evaluating electricity generation potential, environmental impacts, and economic viability. This study compared landfill gas-to-energy, incineration, and anaerobic digestion for electricity generation from municipal solid waste (MSW) in Kano Metropolis, Ni...

This study assesses the integrated sustainability performance of waste-to-energy (WtE) technology pathways across eight of South Africa’s metropolitan municipalities, which are home to 40.14% of the country’s population. The assessment considers energy generation, GHG emission-reduction potential, landfill space saving...

Leachate and methane are produced simultaneously at municipal solid waste landfills, yet they are usually assessed separately and rarely against what a specific site actually reports. This study builds a site-constrained model of the Niğde regional sanitary landfill at Hıdırlık, Türkiye, which has operated since 2013 f...
