Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the interdisciplinary Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach assisted by the manipulative PAPERSE prop in improving fifth-grade students' Science Process Skills (SPS) on human respiratory system materials. The methodology employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design framework. The research sample was determined using a total sampling technique involving all 28 fifth-grade students at SDN Tegalarum 02. Data were gathered through cognitive written tests, psychomotor observation sheets, structured interviews, and documentation. The results revealed a significant improvement in the average SPS score from 40.50 in the pretest to 97.50 in the posttest, achieving a normalized gain (N-gain) of 0.97, which falls into the high category. Hypothesis testing via paired sample t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p<0.05), corroborated by simple linear regression analysis yielding a coefficient of determination (R^2) of 0.746, indicating a 74.6% contribution to students' SPS variance. Thus, integrating the interdisciplinary STEAM approach with manipulative PAPERSE props is proven effective in optimizing young learners' science process skills in primary education.

The impact of agile practices on communication in software development

The study shows that agile practices improve both informal and formal communication, but indicates that, in larger development situations involving multiple external stakeholders, a mismatch of adequate communication mechanisms can sometimes even hinder the communication.

What AI gets wrong and what failure teaches us

Jennifer Neville did not want to go into computer science—but that’s exactly where she landed. Neville discusses the starts and stops that led to her professional sweet spot and her work identifying “surprising failures” making it hard for AI to handle complexity.  The post What AI gets wrong and what failure teaches us appeared first on Microsoft Research.
