Abstract
Under the dual pressures of energy security and environmental protection, biodiesel has emerged as a promising clean fuel for diesel engines due to its renewability and low soot emissions. However, its combustion and emission characteristics still require optimization for practical application. To address the limitations of previous studies, which mainly focused on single-parameter effects, this paper establishes a one-dimensional GT-POWER model of a 4135 four-cylinder diesel engine fueled by biodiesel. After calibration, the maximum relative error between simulated and experimental in-cylinder pressure is within ±3%, confirming the model’s reliability. Based on this validated model, the effect of injection timing on engine performance and emissions is investigated. The results show that adjusting injection timing can further enhance combustion, and an injection timing of about −15° CA achieves a relatively good balance between cylinder pressure and NOx emissions. This study provides useful theoretical support for the performance optimization of biodiesel-fueled diesel engines and the cleaner development of marine power systems.
Background: The transition of marine propulsion systems to dual-fuel operation has become a key approach for improving fuel efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in compliance with IMO regulations. The MAN 5S65ME-C low-speed two-stroke engine represents a typical modern marine engine that can be theoreticall...

This study investigates the effects of ammonia energy share on power, torque, and emissions of an ammonia–diesel dual-fuel engine using an AVL BOOST simulation model. The DESSUN 4DSP-75 diesel engine model was developed and validated under baseline diesel operation. The validated model was then converted to dual-fuel o...
