Data and code for: One genotype, two deserts - climatic distance to a premium terroir predicts Deglet Noor date quality in North Africa and California

Oct 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

Data and Python code reproducing all analyses of the article "One genotype, two deserts: climatic distance to a premium terroir predicts Deglet Noor date quality in North Africa and California" (submitted to Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene). The archive contains ERA5 daily extracts (1990-2024, retrieved via the Open-Meteo API) for the thirteen Maghreb Deglet Noor panel sites, the held-out Coachella Valley site and the climatic controls; the leakage-free nested cross-validation, permutation, floating-optimum and held-out prediction analyses; the AR6 delta-method projection to 2050; the supplementary analyses S1-S7, including the OGIMET station validation; and the figure scripts. Version 5 supersedes all earlier versions (see CHANGELOG.md). Versions 3 and 4 were internal development versions and were not deposited on Zenodo.

Trajectory Balance: Improved Credit Assignment in GFlowNets

It is proved that any global minimizer of the trajectory balance objective can define a policy that samples exactly from the target distribution, and empirically demonstrate the benefits of the trajectories balance objective for GFlowNet convergence, diversity of generated samples, and robustness to long action sequenc...

What AI gets wrong and what failure teaches us

Jennifer Neville did not want to go into computer science—but that’s exactly where she landed. Neville discusses the starts and stops that led to her professional sweet spot and her work identifying “surprising failures” making it hard for AI to handle complexity.  The post What AI gets wrong and what failure teaches us appeared first on Microsoft Research.
