Serodetection of antibodies against bovine enzootic leukosis virus in confined Holstein cattle herds

ABSTRACT: The enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) virus is the etiological agent of a permanent and incurable infection in cattle. The virus integrates into the host’s DNA and replicates continuously, primarily infecting B lymphocytes and negatively affecting the immune response of infected cattle. With oncogenic potential,...

Bovine mammary tissues are susceptible to infection by viruses bearing panzootic H5N1 influenza A virus glycoproteins

It is demonstrated that the mammary glands from both beef and dairy cattle breeds are susceptible to infection with viruses bearing avian-origin H5N1 glycoproteins and suggested that bovine mammary tissue may provide an environment in which diverse IAVs could co-infect the same tissue.

Genetic characterization of severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus in ticks from livestock environments in South Korea

Introduction Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), caused by the SFTS virus (SFTSV), is a highly fatal tick-borne zoonosis that poses a substantial public health threat. Although livestock husbandry environments represent important ecological settings for viral maintenance and circulation, molecular surve...

Mucosal disease associated with BVDV-1b and BVDV-1e in cattle in Southern Brazil

Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an important pathogen of the global cattle industry. Fetal infection during the period of immunotolerance may result in the birth of persistently infected (PI) animals. In such animals, the emergence of or superinfection with cytopathic variants may trigger mucosal disease (MD). Th...

Current Perspectives on the Immunopathogenesis and Pathology of Small Ruminant Lentivirus Infections

Small ruminant lentiviruses (SRVLs), including ovine maedi-visna virus and caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus, are considered genetically a single pathogen that causes a progressive multisystemic inflammatory disease. Continuous interspecies transmission in areas where these species come into contact, along with dual...

Oropouche Virus: An Emerging Arboviral Threat in Cuba and the Need for Active Surveillance

Oropouche virus (OROV) is an arboviral pathogen historically confined to the Amazon basin that has undergone an unprecedented geographic expansion across Latin America and the Caribbean since 2023, driven by a novel reassortant lineage with enhanced replicative fitness. Between January and August 2024, more than 8,000...
