Limited skills among nonformal educators in developing digital technology-based learning resources remain a challenge in improving the quality of learning in equivalency education. This community engagement program aimed to improve nonformal educators’ knowledge and skills in designing, developing, and integrating digital learning resources through participatory training based on learning by doing. The program was conducted over two days at PKBM Bunda Samarinda and involved 40 nonformal educators from several community learning centers in Samarinda City. The activities consisted of needs identification, a pre-test, conceptual reinforcement, demonstration, hands-on practice, mentoring, product development, review and feedback, followed by a post-test and evaluation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk test, and a paired-samples t-test. The results showed that the participants’ mean score increased from 60.78 on the pre-test to 85.25 on the post-test, representing an increase of 24.47 points. The paired-samples t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (t(39) = 53.056; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that participatory training based on learning by doing can support the improvement of nonformal educators’ ability to understand and develop digital learning resources. The findings recommend continued post-training mentoring and sustainable development of digital learning products to strengthen educators’ digital competence in nonformal education settings.
The results indicate that software engineering work practices are chosen opportunistically, adapted and configured to provide value under the constrains imposed by the startup context.
