FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE AND ORGANIZATION

Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

Computer architecture and organization are fundamental areas of computer engineering that explain how a computer system is designed, structured, and operated. Computer architecture focuses on the functional behavior and capabilities of a computer system, while computer organization describes how these functions are physically implemented through hardware components such as the processor, memory, input and output devices, and storage systems. This paper presents the fundamental concepts of computer architecture and organization and discusses their relationship with modern AI-based logic design. It examines methodologies such as artificial intelligence-assisted circuit optimization, reinforcement learning for logic restructuring, and generative transformer models for circuit design. The discussion also compares traditional heuristic Electronic Design Automation (EDA) approaches with emerging AI-based techniques in terms of optimization, automation, adaptability, and design efficiency. In addition, the paper explores applications in system design, current challenges, ethical considerations, limitations, and possible future developments. Understanding these concepts provides a foundation for designing efficient, reliable, and intelligent computer systems.
