AI Models for Advancing Plant Tissue Culture and Bioreactors
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) is altering plant biotechnology by solving significant problems in tissue culture and bioreactor systems, including variability, man-power intensity, and poor reproducibility. Machine learning (ML) algorithms and artificial neural networks (ANNs) have opened the capability of simulating complex, nonlinear interactions among nutrients, hormones, and environmental factors that allow predictive optimization of media composition and morphogenic activities. Automated high-throughput computer-vision optimization for callus induction, shoot multiplication, and contamination analysis using digital-vision software and convolution neural networks (CNNs) that yield higher precision and consistency than manual evaluation. AI-powered bioreactor machinery ignites these innovations, carrying these advances over to adaptive, digital, and autonomous plant manufacturing on an industrial level. Predictive modeling and reinforcement learning architectures dynamically control bioreactors’ aeration, agitation, and nutrient supply, achieving ideal physiological conditions in real time. Integration of sensors like Internet of Things (IoT) and digital twin platforms advances continuous and errorless monitoring, process scalability, and sustainability. Applications comprehend AI-directed micropropagation of high-value and endangered crops, industrial-scale production of vital bioactive metabolites, and predictive maintenance of vulnerable species. Incoming frameworks like explainable AI, federated learning, and robotics integration offer transparent, collaborative, and resource-saving keys for next-generation digital bioprocessing. Together, these innovations represent a paradigm shift to intelligent, reproducible, and self-optimizing in vitro schemes and form a central part of next-generation plant biotechnology.
