As renewable energy sources and electric vehicles proliferate, managing energy efficiently under uncertainty has become critical. This chapter focuses on optimization challenges in electric vehicle (EV) charging and vehicle-tobuilding (V2B) integration, formalizing them as sequential decision-making problems under uncertainty. It introduces algorithmic frameworks, including reinforcement learning, online planning with Monte Carlo methods, and model predictive control, explaining how each can be applied to balance user preferences with system-level energy goals. The chapter also emphasizes the human and institutional dimension, discussing incentive design and negotiation protocols that encourage user participation and alignment with social objectives. By bridging technical depth with socio-economic considerations, the chapter illustrates a path toward scalable, user-centric, resilient, and efficient energy management systems.
The results indicate that software engineering work practices are chosen opportunistically, adapted and configured to provide value under the constrains imposed by the startup context.
