This chapter presents a comprehensive analysis of real-world case studies that demonstrate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies on sustainable bioenergy production. Bioenergy demonstrates potential as a renewable energy source, particularly in the context of global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and transition to more sustainable energy alternatives. Optimization and sustainable manufacturing require more advanced tools to manage complex, dynamic variables. This chapter presents case studies that apply AI/ML techniques, such as predictive modeling, optimizing processes, and real-time monitoring, within the context of biomass supply chain management for biogas production, biofuel yield improvement, and waste-to-energy conversion across various bioenergy sectors. The chapter highlights how supervised and unsupervised learning models, reinforcement learning, and deep learning architectures can boost output, lower resource usage, and make it easier to make decisions when faced with uncertainty. These case studies show the revolutionary possibilities of AI/ML in developing commercially viable and environmentally conscientious bioenergy systems, while also offering insights into best practices, challenges, and potential futures in sustainable energy innovation.
The results indicate that software engineering work practices are chosen opportunistically, adapted and configured to provide value under the constrains imposed by the startup context.
