Impact of Phosphorus Solubilizing Microorganisms and Inorganic Sources of Phosphorus on Plant Dry Matter and Yield Attributes of Maize (Zea mays L.)

The present study was conducted at the Instructional Farm of Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, during the kharif seasons of 2024 and 2025 to evaluate the effects of phosphorus-solubilising microorganisms (PSMs) and inorganic phosphorus sources on plant dry matter and yield attributes of maize. The experiment was laid out in a randomised block design comprising 12 treatment combinations with three replications. The recorded attributes included plant dry matter, number of cobs per plant, number of grains per cob and seed index. The combined application of PSMs and inorganic phosphorus sources significantly increased plant dry matter, the number of grains per cob and the seed index compared with the control, whereas the number of cobs per plant was not significantly affected. Enhanced phosphorus availability through microbial inoculants, together with an adequate supply of inorganic phosphorus, promoted root development, nutrient uptake and photosynthetic activity, resulting in improved reproductive growth and grain formation. The highest values for plant dry matter and the significant yield attributes were recorded under the integrated application of PSMs with the recommended dose of phosphorus fertiliser. The findings indicate that integrating phosphorus-solubilising microorganisms with inorganic phosphorus sources can support maize productivity under the conditions of the study. This integrated approach may improve phosphorus availability and the efficiency of phosphorus nutrition while maintaining the measured yield attributes.

To study the effect of different organic sources on yield attributes and yield of Green gram [Vigna radiata (L). Wilczek]

A field experiment entitled “To study the effect of different organic sources on yield attributes and yield of Green gram [Vigna radiata (L). Wilczek]” was conducted on clay-loam soil during Kharif 2025 at the Instructional Farm of Agronomy, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, Rajasthan. The experiment comprised of 10 treatments of different organic sources and seed treatment i.e. control (T1), FYM @ 6 tha-1 + Seed treatment with Beejamrit @ 20 mlkg-1 (T2), FYM @ 6 tha-1+Seed treatment with Rhizobium @ 5 mlkg-1 (T3), FYM @ 6 tha-1 + Seed treatment with NPK Consortium @ 5ml kg-1 (T4), Vermicompost @ 2t ha-1 + Seed treatment with Beejamrit @ 20ml kg-1 (T5), Vermicompost @ 2t ha-1 + Seed treatment with Rhizobium @ 5ml kg-1 (T6), Vermicompost @ 2t ha-1 + Seed treatment with NPK Consortium @5 ml kg-1 (T7), Jeevamrit 1500 L ha-1 at 20 and 45 DAS + Seed treatment with Beejamrit @ 20 ml kg-1 (T8), Jeevamrit 1500 L ha-1at 20 and 45 DAS + Seed treatment with Rhizobium @ 5 ml kg-1 (T9) and Jeevamrit 1500 L ha-1 at 20 and 45 DAS + Seed treatment with NPK Consortium @ 5ml kg-1 (T10), which were replicated three times in randomized block design. The soil at the experimental site was slightly alkali reaction, medium in available nitrogen and available phosphorus and high in potassium. In the experiment data clearly show that’s application of organic sources significantly affect yield attributes, seed and haulm yield. Application of treatment Vermicompost @ 2t ha-1+ Seed treatment with NPK Consortium @5 ml kg-1 (T7) recorded maximum number of pods plant-1 (32.0), number of seeds pod-1 (8.33), test weight  (36.0 g), seed (993 kg ha-1), haulm (1583 kg ha-1) and biological yield (2576 kg ha-1).
