Sep 2026 · Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

ABSTRACT The monograph presents a systemic study of agentic artificial intelligence as a multi-component configuration in which a language or multimodal model is combined with goals, planning, memory, a tool layer, an action environment, verification and human oversight. Across fifteen chapters, it develops a conceptual and methodological apparatus for agency, proposes a reference agent architecture, examines goal setting and task decomposition, distinguishes context from governed long-term memory, and defines a tool as an action contract with access rights, logging and post-conditions. Separate chapters address digital proving grounds and embodied agents, multi-agent coordination, governed skill accumulation and multidimensional evaluation. The concluding chapters cover reliability, safety and human oversight; human-agent interaction and co-creation; applications in education, science and engineering design; infrastructure, resource cost and sustainability; and a roadmap for further research. The principal contribution is an integrated framework in which agency is treated as a property of system organization, while acceptable autonomy depends on verifiable goals, permissions, logs, stopping procedures, resource budgets and accountable human or institutional decision-making. Keywords: agentic artificial intelligence; agentic systems; architecture; planning; memory; tools; digital proving ground; multi-agent coordination; agent learning; evaluation; safety; human oversight; co-creation; resource sustainability; research roadmap.

Gender, Race, and Intersectional Bias in Resume Screening via Language Model Retrieval

This work investigates the possibilities of using LLMs in a resume screening setting via a document retrieval framework that simulates job candidate selection and finds that the MTEs are biased, significantly favoring White-associated names in 85% of cases and female-associated names in only 11.1% of cases.
