Field Efficacy of Pasteuria penetrans against Meloidogyne incognita infecting Tuberose

2026 · Indian Journal of Nematology · 0 citations

Abstract

Tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) is a commercially important ornamental crop valued for its attractive flowers and pleasant fragrance. However, its productivity is severely affected by the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita, which contribute to nearly 10% of global yield reduction in tuberose. The present study was undertaken to develop a water-soluble formulation (WSF) of Pasteuria penetrans and to evaluate its efficacy under both microplot and field conditions. Under microplot conditions, application of P. penetrans at 2ml WSF per plant significantly enhanced the plant growth, recording 42.5% increase in the shoot length and 55.64% in shoot weight compared with the untreated control. The field trial demonstrated that application of the WSF at 2ml per plant reduced the root gall formation and egg mass production by 28.5% and 19.5%, respectively. These findings indicate that the developed watersoluble formulation of P. penetrans has considerable potential as an effective biological management tool against root-knot nematodes and could be standardized for commercial application in tuberose cultivation.

Effectiveness of Lemongrass Against Fusarium oxysporum Wilt Disease in Tomato

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) production is severely constrained by Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum, a soil-borne pathogen that disrupts vascular tissues and reduces plant growth and productivity. Although synthetic fungicides are widely used, their environmental impacts have encouraged the development of su...

Comparative Evaluation of Organic Amendments Against Meloidogyne incognita in Tomato Seedlings

Tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum L.) is a globally important vegetable crop whose productivity is significantly constrained by root‐knot nematodes ( Meloidogyne incognita ). The results revealed that all organic amendments significantly reduced nematode population and associated disease parameters compared to...

Management of Root-Knot Disease in Chilli by Soil Application of Trichoderma Species

The present study evaluates the efficacy of four Trichoderma species, namely T. harzianum, T. viride, T. asperellum, and T. hamatum, against M. incognita in chilli (Capsicum annuum) cv. NS-1701-DS under polyhouse pot conditions. Inoculation of Meloidogyne incognita 1500 J2/pot reduced the plant growth and yield of chil...

Integrated evaluation of biological and chemical control against Globodera pallida in potato

The cyst nematode Globodera pallida poses a critical threat to potato production in Colombia, where severe infestations can cause yield losses of up to 90%. This study evaluated the efficacy of two biological products, Onix® (Bacillus methylotrophicus) and Alicerce® (B. licheniformis and B. subtilis), alongside a chemi...

Nematicidal Activity from Extracts of Weeds Lysimachia arvensis and Ipomoea purpurea Against Nacobbus aberrans

The false root-knot nematode, Nacobbus aberrans, is a major threat to Latin American agricultural soils, affecting high-demand crops and posing a potential risk to Europe. Alternatively, using weeds to develop botanical nematicides is a viable strategy given the large amount of available, unused biomass. This study res...

Evaluating Various Essential Oils for the Control of Anthracnose in Chives

Chives (Allium fistulosum L.) are a globally consumed culinary condiment susceptible to diseases that cause yield losses. Anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum spaethianum, significantly affects chive production. This study evaluated essential oils (EOs) for controlling anthracnose by examining mycelial growth inhibiti...
