Abstract

New digital technologies are significantly changing the way production systems of industrial enterprises function. At the same time, for Russian industrial enterprises, the transition to the principles of Industry 4.0 is one of the most important conditions for maintaining competitiveness. However, the digital transformation of the industry is fraught with serious challenges and risks. The article examines the phenomenon of digital transformation of industrial enterprises in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. The key drivers of digital technology adoption are analyzed, including the personnel crisis, geopolitical instability, and the need to improve operational efficiency. The article examines the opportunities that digitalization opens up for industrial enterprises, including increased productivity, cost optimization, and the emergence of new business models. The article focuses on systemic risks and barriers, such as cyber threats, compatibility issues, lack of competencies, and scaling difficulties for pilot projects. Based on the analysis of practical cases, recommendations for effective management of digital transformation in industry are formulated. The article may be of interest to heads of industrial enterprises, strategic planners, and representatives of government agencies involved in improving industrial development.
