Scopuloides fimbriata (Meruliaceae, Polyporales), a New Fungal Species From Southwest China Revealed by Morphology and Phylogenetic Analyses
Abstract
Wood‐inhabiting fungi can decompose lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose and play an integral role in the material cycle of forest ecosystems. In this study, we proposed a new species Scopuloides fimbriata , which was collected from Yunnan Province, southwest China. This new species is characterized by a smooth, white to buff hymenial surface and cylindrical, colorless, thin‐walled basidiospores measuring 4.5–6.3 × 2–3 µm. The phylogenetic analysis was performed with Maximum Likelihood, Bayesian Inference, and Maximum Parsimony methods based on ITS + nLSU nuclear RNA gene regions. Phylogenetic analysis showed that S. fimbriata formed a monophyletic lineage within the family Meruliaceae and it is closely related to the type species of Scopuloides , S. hydnoides .
