Emotions in engineering education: widening perspectives in a rapidly growing field of research

Abstract

doctoral research explores the interplay between emotions and systems thinking in engineers’ sociotechnical problem solving. Drawing on appraisal theory, the study uses the Critical Incident Technique (CRT) and qualitative interviews with practicing engineers the thesis demonstrates that emotions are integral to sociotechnical problem solving, supporting engineers in navigating stakeholder perspectives, complexity
