A Bibliometric Analysis of Green Supply Chain Management Practices : Trends, Challenges, and Future Research

Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of Green Supply Chain Management, focusing on key trends, emerging themes and challenges. Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) in universities transcends conventional procurement methods to include sustainable campus operations, environmentally responsible purchasing policies, waste minimisation, and green logistics. This systematic review analyses recent studies on GSCM trends and challenges  from 2002 to 2025. Articles were methodically obtained from Scopus, focusing on peer-reviewed research that examines the incorporation of environmental sustainability concepts in campus supply chains. The finding indicate that dominants contributors to sustainability research include the China, India and United States with leading and contribute to publication. The study identifies core research themes, including integration of technology, environmental and industry in Green Supply Chain Management. Research indicates an increasing inclination towards sustainable procurement strategies, zero-waste programs, circular economy frameworks, and the integration of digital technologies to improve environmental performance. However, considerable obstacles persist, such as insufficient stakeholder involvement, poor sustainable supply networks, and budgetary limitations. This analysis closes by suggesting research avenues that promote comprehensive sustainability frameworks, inter-campus collaborations, and the use of intelligent technology to enhance GSCM practices in higher education institutions. Furthermore, subsequent research ought to examine data from Web of Science, Google Scholar, dimensions and others. Combining different datasets could lead to interesting and important results.
