Abstract
This guideline is designed for the first online session of the course Current Issues in English Language Education. It supports a student-led discussion model in which four students are selected by the class to guide two discussion blocks. Block 1 focuses on the Course Guide and the literature review of current issues in English language education. Students discuss the course purpose, learning outcomes, learning philosophy, research-based learning, major current issues in ELT, research ethics, responsible AI use, and the process of moving from a current issue to a research problem and research question. Block 2 focuses on the research guidelines for English Language Testing and Assessment in the AI Era. Students discuss the school-based mixed-methods research model, three research topic choices, the shared questionnaire, interview guides, mixed-methods integration, the four-month research timeline, and the main milestones for UTS, manuscript submission, and UAS. The guideline also explains the role of the lecturer as a facilitator, academic guide, and source of clarification rather than the main discussion leader. It is intended to promote active reading, discussion, critical thinking, collaboration, and student responsibility in the research process.
The method, ECCOLA, is presented, which aims at making the high-level AI ethics principles more practical, making it possible for developers to more easily implement them in practice.
