Cyberpsychological Features of Strategic Communications in the Digital Environment

Jul 2026 · Society and Security · 0 citations

Abstract

The article establishes that, unlike traditional face-to-face interpersonal communication, online interaction is characterized by a reduced level of social presence, weakened external control mechanisms, and altered conditions of users’ self-regulation of behavior. As a result, the digital space acquires properties of an environment in which not only information is transmitted, but also cognitive and behavioral responses of audiences are actively formed. The article substantiates that in the context of contemporary information confrontation, not only the content of messages becomes the object of influence, but also the mechanisms of their perception and dissemination. In this regard, strategic communications evolve from a model of information transmission to a model of managing the information environment and behavioral patterns of audiences. Cyberpsychology is considered an interdisciplinary field that provides a theoretical and methodological foundation for analyzing digital behavior and enables the prediction of user responses to informational influences. The study finds that one of the key factors influencing the transformation of user behavior in the digital environment is the online disinhibition effect, driven by factors such as anonymity, invisibility, asynchronicity of communication, solipsistic introjection, dissociative imagination, and reduced influence of social status. It is shown that these factors contribute both to constructive forms of self-disclosure and to destructive manifestations, including aggression, misinformation, and polarization of the communicative environment. It is demonstrated that the algorithmic architecture of social platforms, in particular mechanisms of personalization and amplification of emotional content, acts as an independent factor in strategic communications, mediating the visibility and effectiveness of informational messages. In this context, the digital environment is viewed as a space of algorithmically governed publicity. The importance of taking into account cyberpsychological features of audience behavior in the planning and implementation of information campaigns is substantiated.
