Abstract
The semi-crystalline strategy has emerged as a sustainable and reversible route to reinforce soft polymers, yet their complex microstructure precludes accurate characterization by classical statistical-chain theories. In this work an extended deformable freely rotating chain (dFRC) model is proposed that explicitly discriminates between intra-chain and inter-chain crystallization and couples the conformational entropy of amorphous chains with crystalline constraints. The crystalline phase in soft semi-crystalline polymers is believed to follow the mathematical law of grasshopper jumping folding and exhibit the characteristic of freely rotation, but the amorphous part is highly deformable, thus extending the classical FRC model. Parametric studies reveal that intra-chain crystallization (compact chain folding) shortens the end-to-end distance and increases apparent stiffness, whereas inter-chain crystallization (chain alignment) extends the end-to-end distance and promotes strain hardening. The model contains only three composite parameters—chain deformation ability, chain stiffness and thermal deformation—all of which are physically measurable. The dFRC framework therefore provides a concise yet physically rigorous platform for designing soft semi-crystalline networks with programmable strength and toughness.
The mechanical behavior of semicrystalline polymers is governed by the cooperative response of crystalline lamellae and interlamellar amorphous chains, yet how this ordered–disordered coupling regulates molecular-scale fracture remains poorly understood. Polymer lamellar single crystals offer a structurally defined p...

Melt memory in semicrystalline polymers is the remarkable ability of polymer chains to retain structural information from a prior crystalline state after being heated above the melting temperature. This phenomenon can induce extraordinary self-nucleation and strongly influence crystallization kinetics and final materia...

Chain scission is a key molecular process underlying damage and fracture in polymer networks. In this Letter, we develop a statistical-mechanical framework for predicting chain-scission kinetics while accounting for three-dimensional (3D) conformational fluctuations. Within transition-state theory, scission is formulat...
Bottle-brush polymers, consisting of rigid main chains and flexible long side chains, have attracted extensive attention due to their low chain entanglement, low melt viscosity, and high softness. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were employed to investigate the multiscale mechanism by which the main/side...

We use coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations to investigate structural organization in melts of brush copolymers as a function of side-chain grafting density, backbone-side-chain miscibility, and backbone rigidity. At low grafting densities, decreasing miscibility drives microphase separation of backbones and...

We develop a Toeplitz matrix formulation of polymer statistics that provides a unified, analytically tractable description of flexible and semiflexible chains. Bond-vector correlations are encoded in a Toeplitz matrix, with a single parameter controlling the decay of orientational memory along the backbone. The bead-sp...
