Abstract

The Comprehensive Child Health Care (AISC) plays a central role in understanding the child as an individual directly influenced by their social, familial, and territorial contexts, and in recognizing how each of these factors impacts their overall development. Objective: To discuss the role and strategies of AISC in non-urban settings regarding children with atypical development. Method: A descriptive clinical case report involving quantitative and qualitative analysis of a child living in a non-urban area who presented with neuropsychomotor developmental delay. Results and discussion: Quantitative analysis showed that the child failed to meet developmental milestones appropriate for their chronological age, indicating significant neuropsychomotor developmental delay. Qualitative analysis, which included an understanding of the child's environmental and familial contexts, revealed associations with the child's condition, although a direct causal link could not be established. Conclusion: The AISC is a broad-scope, highly successful collective initiative—when implemented in its true spirit—that relies on shared efforts among society, families, and public government structures. The interfaces proposed by this collective project must align with the activities and initiatives carried out within the daily routines of the served population across various areas of intervention. It is of utmost importance to create a scenario in which structural and territorial barriers are overcome to ensure the full provision of AISC for both typical and atypical children in non-urban settings.
