Abstract
The aviation industry requires a strong safety culture to ensure operational reliability and minimize human error, particularly in aircraft maintenance training where future professionals develop essential technical and safety competencies. This study examined the promotion of safety practices by an Approved Training Organization (ATO) among Aircraft Maintenance Technology students at Indiana Aerospace University during the Academic Year 2024–2025. Specifically, it assessed the effectiveness of safety protocols, safety practices, and safety promotion initiatives while identifying the major challenges encountered by students during training. The study employed a mixed-method convergent parallel research design involving 100 graduates who had completed their On-the-Job Training. Quantitative data were collected using a researcher-developed five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews. Descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and standard deviation, were used to analyze quantitative responses, whereas thematic analysis was applied to qualitative data. Findings revealed that respondents generally agreed that the ATO effectively promotes safety through consistent enforcement of personal protective equipment, standardized safety procedures, instructor guidance, and organizational safety initiatives. However, the study also identified significant concerns, including gaps in curriculum safety content, limited practical application of safety concepts, insufficient assessment of safety competencies, and inadequate identification of students with potential safety risks. These findings indicate that although existing safety promotion strategies contribute to a positive safety culture, further improvements in curriculum design, simulation-based training, and competency-based assessment are necessary. The study concludes that strengthening practical safety education and continuous safety evaluation will better prepare future aircraft maintenance professionals to meet the safety demands of the aviation industry.
Aviation safety is a fundamental aspect of the aerospace industry, particularly in aircraft maintenance activities, which are highly complex and risky. Various studies show that maintenance failures are not only caused by technical factors, but are also significantly influenced by human factors. This study aims to analyze the role of Human Factors training and the professional attitudes of technicians in fostering a safety culture in the aircraft maintenance environment. The method used is a literature study by analyzing relevant scientific publications from 1990 to 2024. The results of the study show that Human Factors training contributes to increasing risk awareness, communication quality, and the decision-making abilities of technicians. In addition, professional attitudes play an important role in encouraging procedural compliance and safe work behavior. The integration of continuous training and professionalism coaching has been proven to strengthen the safety culture of aircraft maintenance organizations in a sustainable manner.
The aviation sector is currently facing a growing shortage of aircraft maintenance engineers, further complicated by outdated training and assessment regulations focusing on theory and time requirements rather than competencies. In response, the industry is moving towards Competency-Based Training and Assessment, which introduces a significant shift by including transversal competencies that hold strong attitudinal elements requiring assessment through direct observation of performance. This study seeks to identify the critical success factors for training and assessing these transversal competencies within aircraft maintenance vocational education and training, leveraging principles of programmatic assessment.
A five-month action research study was conducted involving 21 students and three instructors, utilizing a previously developed training and assessment programme validated by industry stakeholders. The findings demonstrate that a programmatic assessment approach, integrating peer, self, and instructor assessments within individual assessment portfolios, is perceived as effective to develop and evaluate competence. Students report enhanced reflection, self-awareness, and competency performance. Key factors for success included the adoption of a coaching approach, the use of simulation and role-play, and the implementation of iterative assessments with formative feedback in supportive environments. Additionally, instructors benefited from applying the ORCA (Observe, Record, Classify, Assess) method and undertaking further training in holistic group assessment.

Introduction: The primary aim of this empirical study is to identify the core Industrial Safety Management Practices (ISMPs) that significantly enhance safety performance and mitigate accident risks within Indian construction establishments. Methods: A structured questionnaire survey was carried out on 475 respondents representing the all organizational levels in Indian construction units. Mean ranking, Spearman rank correlation, and one sample t-tests were used to determine effectiveness of the twenty ISMPs and the validity of the results was then verified through case studies under large construction projects to determine the empirical validity. Result: Safety Professionals (Mean = 4.42), Safety Permit Systems (Mean = 4.37) and Safety Training (Mean = 4.34) emerged as the most effective ISMPs with a high correlation to accident prevention and overall safety performance. Pep-Talks/Toolbox Talks and PPE Compliance also ranked high, reinforcing the importance of direct communication and discipline as a means of protection. The alignment between the managerial and worker perceptions (ρ=0.726, p < 0.05) showed that there was a high alignment across hierarchies. Case studies established that construction units that were found to have an excellent implementation of the best ISMPs had the lowest frequency rates of accidents. Conclusion: The findings highlight that systematic implementation of professionally monitored, knowledge-based, and procedural ISMPs have direct impact on reducing the number of accidents and enhancing the safety culture in the construction industry. This study offers the first empirically validated ISMP framework for Indian construction, demonstrating that systematic, knowledge-driven, and communication-oriented practices yield tangible reductions in workplace accidents.

In order to fulfil requirements of current workplaces, the engineering industry increasingly demands that graduates in civil engineering have both strong non-technical skills and technical ability. Students can use academic knowledge in real-world industry settings while developing critical non-technical skills like ethics, leadership, teamwork, and communication through industrial training. Therefore, among Civil Engineering students at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), this study was to determine the level of non-technical skills, determine the level of industrial training elements, and examine the relationship between non-technical skills and industrial training elements. The survey approach in a quantitative study design. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data from 220 final-year Civil Engineering students who had finished their industrial training. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 27 was used to analyze the gathered data using Pearson correlation analysis and descriptive statistics like mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the respondents had a high level of industrial training elements and non-technical skills. The findings also showed a strong positive correlation between industrial training elements and non-technical skills. The findings used are limited to Civil Engineering students at a single university and are based on students’ self-reported responses. In order to improve students' professional competencies, workplace readiness, and graduate employability, this study focuses on the significance of incorporating non-technical skills into engineering education and industrial training programs. It also offers valuable insights for higher education institutions and industry partners.

This paper analyzes variations in pilot training and licensing policies across four major organizations: the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Indonesia. The main issue here is the impact of contradictory training pathway requirements, flight hours, simulator requirements, language proficiency requirements, and instructor qualification requirements on aviation safety, license transferability, and the construction of the pilot training system in Indonesia. This study employs a qualitative research design, combining a systematic literature review with regulatory comparative analysis. The findings demonstrate that the prescriptive and competency-based model is most prevalent in EASA, where simulation and multi-crew requirements are widely applied; whereas in the FAA, the emphasis is more on total flight experience and rules related to 1,500 hours; and in the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR), there is minimal implementation but overall consistent with ICAO minimum. The paper finds that the country must progressively harmonize with modern ICAO, EASA, and FAA standards of good practice, prioritizing competency-based training (CBT), fatigue risk management, simulator capacity, and instructor professionalization to enhance safety performance and international recognition.

In response to rapid shifts toward electrification, digitalization, and sustainability in the automotive industry, this study developed a sustainability-oriented, evidence-based competency framework for automotive maintenance technicians. Traditional competency frameworks, often derived from manufacturer manuals or curricula, overlook tacit knowledge from real-world maintenance practices, leading to gaps in diagnostic effectiveness, service quality, and resource efficiency. To address this limitation, 8500 maintenance records from 67 service centers (2022–2025) were subjected to quantitative content analysis to identify preliminary competency indicators across five vehicle systems. A three-round Delphi survey involving 24 senior automotive experts was subsequently conducted to validate and prioritize these indicators on the basis of mean importance scores and coefficients of variation (≤0.20). The final framework comprised 39 competencies, such as diagnostic proficiency, electronic system integration, system-level troubleshooting, and technical documentation application. Beyond traditional mechanical skills, cross-system diagnostic capability and digital tool proficiency have become essential competencies for modern electric vehicles. By transforming tacit maintenance knowledge into measurable indicators, the developed framework can contribute to supporting workforce sustainability, enhancing repair accuracy, reducing unnecessary part replacement, and improving resource efficiency. It can also inform vocational education, industry certification, and human capital development aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 8, 9, and 12.
