Instagram as a tool for field access in participatory research
Abstract
Gaining field access in participatory social work research is particularly challenging when working with highly burdened families. This article presents a reflexive analysis of a qualitative participatory project with caregiving parents. Drawing on social work concepts, it identifies three communication principles and illustrates their practical application, using Instagram as a field-access tool. Addressing participants as experts, community members and beneficiaries increased engagement while also creating ethical, legal and resource-related challenges.
